“It Takes a Church....”
St. Paul’s both treasures its kids and
relies on them for tasks.
How are our children involved in the life of St. Paul’s?
- Preschoolers may join parents at the services or participate
in the child care activities.
- At baptisms kids gather at the baptismal font.
- Kids serve as bell-ringers, crucifers, and acolytes.
- At least once a year kids take charge of the principal
service--as far as is possible canonically.
- The Junior Choir performs monthly during the
school year.
- Kids join with adults in outreach projects such as recycling
redeemable cans for a project in Belize.
- Kids have created UTO boxes and brought them to UTO Sunday.
- Kids join adults at social events such as potlucks.
- In spring and fall at a local park kids and adults take part
in a combined service, picnic, and softball game.
- To honor St. Francis of Assisi in the fall, kids and adults
bring live or stuffed creatures to be blessed at the principal
service.
- In the spring kids and adults mark Earth Day with projects
such as planting bulbs or by taking trips to the Aquarium or an
Audubon Sanctuary.
St. Paul’s Church School’s Simpler and Greener Christmas

Kids and adults who took part in a “simpler and greener”
Christmas, created the banner above which was later posted in
the parish hall. They all worked together to compose “Christmas
coupons” for family and friends and made pine-cone bird feeders
as they excitedly talked about the meaning of Christmas. The
kids’ items were displayed at the coffee hour table complemented
by a decorated cake honoring the occasion.
The kids also took part in an “Ecological Ornament Exchange” and
decorated the parish hall Christmas tree. A couple of our
children joined their parents in beautifying the pews, altar
railings, and steps of the church and the kids (and adults)
produced a moving Christmas Eve Pageant with Baby Jesus played
by our newest parishioner.
