Music is a very important facet of spiritual life at St. Paul’s. Our
Music Director works with a small, but dedicated, volunteer adult choir
to rehearse and perform at all 10:30am services during the year. The
Children’s Choir also performs once a month at the beginning of the
10:30am service. Services at 8:15 am are held without music. Hymns at
the outdoor garden services are sung a Capella or with acoustical
instrument accompaniment.
We often have guest musicians during the holidays. For example, a guest
trumpeter heralded us at the Christmas Eve services for the last three
years.
As with the written liturgy, St. Paul’s is adventurous in its musical
tastes. We draw upon hymnals such as Lift Every Voice and Sing as well
as Wonder, Love, and Praise, in addition to the regular blue 1982
Hymnal.
Our Music Director, Reiko Akasaka, is both an accomplished organist and
a pianist, holding dual master’s degrees in performance of the two
instruments. Her experience spans church and secular music, including
choral accompaniment and chamber orchestra membership.
