YOUTH MINISTRY News! – Upcoming Events and Schedule!
CONGRATULATIONS to Alison, Callie, Nolan & Sebastian on their Confirmation this Saturday. Know that we love you and are here to support you as you begin offering your gifts to the world as an adult in the church!
This year’s Confirmation Class begins this Sunday, October 15th from 5:00-7:30! We will be welcoming several new saints to our club! Whether this is your first or your fifth year, please don’t miss this class. We’ll review the exciting changes that we are making to the curriculum this year (don’t worry, there’s still puppies, CityReach and lots of candy!). Parents are invited to join us during the first half of this first class for dinner, check-in and a brief orientation from 5:00-6:00. After that we’ll dive into our first topic of the year – the Reformation!
We’ve tweaked the schedule this year. We’ll only be meeting once a month but the days and times vary significantly. Please print out the schedule below and mark the dates on your calendar. Like last year, please email firstname.lastname@example.org when you aren’t able to make a class so that we can plan accordingly.
See you Sunday!
Youth interested in perusing Confirmation must be at least 12 years of age, commit to consistent participation in the Saint Paul’s Micah Club for three years, train in the ministries of altar service, hospitality, and pastoral care, and meet 1:1 with the Rev’d Gretchen Grimshaw or Youth Minister Katherine Ballas to plan and execute a Confirmation Project. For more information or to sign-up, email Katherine at email@example.com.
The Micah Club
We’ve tweaked our offerings for Middle and High School youth to provide more flexibility for those seeking Confirmation, as well as more opportunities for those who have been recently confirmed to stay involved! The Micah Club is the amalgamation of what was our Confirmation and Affirmation Classes. Participation in the Micah Club is a requirement for those seeking Confirmation and open to all youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years old! Find the 2017-2018 schedule for the Micah Club below.
CityReach is an overnight urban outreach program begun in March 1996 for youth (with accompanying adults), young adults, and college students from churches of any denomination. The program gives these young people the opportunity to learn first hand about homelessness from people who have experienced it. During the 20 hour session, participants join CityReach staff in street ministry and offer hospitality, food and clothing. This is followed by times of sharing and reflection.
Please RSVP this week by emailing Katherine at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration is already open and space always fills up quickly!
It costs approximately $1000 for our parish to attend CityReach as a group. This fee covers, in part, the salaries of the CityReach Staff – many of whom are currently unhoused. If you would like to make a contribution to help our group attend please let us know when you RSVP.

Confirmation Class and Compline (Evening Prayer with Pizza)
The Parish of St. Paul has built a strong and vibrant youth program over the last several years. In addition to our Sunday morning Parish School, our annual program features several Friday evening Family Compline events, several Sunday morning Youth Eucharists, and a record breaking collaborative confirmation class that last year hosted twentyone 12-16 year old pre-confirmands from four Newton Episcopal parishes, and four post-confirmands who joined our class as part of the leadership team.
