Clergy & Leadership

Meet the people who help guide worship, pastoral care, outreach, and parish life at St. Paul's.

The Rev. Dr. Meghan T. Sweeney (she/her/hers)

I have served as priest-in-charge at the Parish of St. Paul since September 2024. Prior, I served at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Attleboro, from 2012-2023. A “bivocational” priest, I serve part time in the parish while also on faculty in the Theology Department at Boston College, teaching primarily in the PULSE Program for Service Learning, for which I served as director from 2014-2026.

I was drawn to St. Paul’s because of the parish’s welcome, prayerful intentionality, thoughtfulness, and engagement with the community. What I love about parish ministry is being able to bring people together through the Church’s prayer and worship to draw us more deeply into the knowledge and love of God made known in Jesus Christ, and send us forth for mission.

I am married to the Rev. Margaret Lias, a vocational deacon, who serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. Our son, Elliot, is proudly almost 7 years old!

My responsibilities involve laying out the weekly leaflets, paying the bills, hunting down plumbers and electricians, and swearing at bots over the phone. What I love above all about my job has been working with Meghan, a fantastic boss. I’m a lifelong secular Jew, and the insights she’s given me into her theology, and into the liturgy, history, and intentions behind the church’s practice, deepen my understanding and feed my (ever- growing) curiosity.

In addition to her working at St. Paul’s, they are also an avid tango dancer!

Parish Administrator

Wardens & Vestry

Clergy and laity share in the responsibility of leading our parish. The vestry is the governing board of the Parish of St. Paul, working with the clergy and staff to carry out God’s mission for our church. The vestry consists of the priest-in-charge, two co-wardens, the treasurer, the clerk, and four members of our parish elected by the church members at the Annual Meeting. The co-wardens, treasurer, and clerk each serve for a 1-year term. Vestry members serve for a 3-year term.

POSP welcomes the curious and a diversity of perspectives, while pursuing a relation with the Divine through our liturgy-based services, our heart-felt music, and our appreciation of and caring for each other. We strive to remain engaged in and connected to an ever-changing and sometimes bewildering world.

In addition to his serving as co-warden, he plays cello or sings in the choir, and serves as lector, intercessor, and Eucharistic minister.

We are a community of seekers and learners looking for others to join us as we sing, pray, learn, and question. In worship together, by making or listening to music, and in other ways we accompany each other on our paths, through times both of sorrow and joy.

In addition to her serving as co-warden, she also sings in the choir and serves as a lector.

I have been a member at St. Paul’s for 23 years. My two children grew up in the church here. I have served on the Vestry and/or as Treasurer for 10 years.

In addition to his serving on the vestry, he also sings in the choir.

I absolutely love the warm and supportive community that is at the heart of St Paul’s.

In addition to her serving as clerk, she also regularly attends St. Paul’s through Zoom and serves as a lector remotely.

I became connected to POSP when my now husband and I moved to Newton Highlands and were looking for a loving and welcoming spiritual community!

In addition to her serving on the vestry, she also serves as an usher, lector, intercessor, and Eucharistic minister.

I’ve been a member of St. Paul’s for over 40 years. After my family, St. Paul’s has been the most important thing in my life. It has given me a warm, caring and supportive community, lifelong friendships, and years of fun and fulfilling events and experiences that have enhanced my family’s life in millions of ways.

In addition to her current service on vestry, in her 40 years at St. Paul's, she has served as warden, clerk, and in just about every role possible!

Saint Paul's is a come as you are place with a surprisingly wide variety of people in a small parish.  Over my time at the parish, my three kids have grown from 0 to thirty something--and the parish has continued to develop its strong roots in friendship, spiritual honesty and inclusivity.

In addition to her serving on vestry, she also serves as usher and host of coffee hour and hospitality.

Christopher Gruener

I found my way to POSP about 35 years ago - just looking for a place to politely be taking my practicing Episcopalian father in law, Bill Williams, to church now and then when he would visit. One Sunday, shortly after Bill had returned to his home in Madison WI, I was surprised to find myself sitting in the pew without him beside me! Bill has passed on, but thanks to him, POSP is still my church home all these many years later.

In addition to his serving on the vestry, he also serves as an usher and lector, and is very involved in the Global Village Children’s Project, which many parishioners of St. Paul’s are involved with.
